Non Insured Health Benefits

The Non Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program’s mental health counselling benefit is intended to provide coverage for professional mental health counselling to complement other mental wellness services that may be available to clients or in communities. Hope for Wellness Line

The Hope for Wellness Line provides 24/7 telephone support which provides immediate support to Indigenous people that is culturally competent for young people and adults experiencing distress. Sliding Fee Scale Counselling

Sliding Fee Scale Counselling

A sliding scale is a type of fee structure therapists sometimes use to give people with fewer resources a lower fee. The sliding scale fee is commonly used in many types of industries including legal service or dental care. The amount you pay for affordable sliding-scale therapy is calculated by your income and number of dependents in the home. See below for some agencies that provide a sliding fee scale option.

Offers subsidized counselling on a sliding scale. First appointment is free of charge. Following appointments are $180 per session. Subsidized counselling is available based on your annual income. Fee will be determined after your first appointment.

Cornerstone Counselling

Offers a sliding scale if you do not have beenfits and your gross household income is less than $100,000 per year. Range is from $50 to $200 per counselling hour. Also have advanced graduate level intern counsellors on site at a rate of $20 per counselling hour for those without benefits and whose gross household income is less than $40,000 per year. Intern counsellors are supervised by a registered psychologist or counsellor with at least 5 years of experience.

Insight Psychological

South and North offices offer sliding fee scale psychotherapy treatment services at reduced flat rate of $80 for each one-hour session. Counselling is provided by Master’s level practicum and post-practicum student therapists. These therapists are all supervised by a senior registered psychologist. Also offer a special discounted rate of $25 for full-time students (current post-secondary student ID is required)

Prescription to Get Active

This program uses activity “prescriptions” to enourage patients to get moving to improve their health and reap the benefits of regular activity. Patients can be active on their own at home or in the community, or redeem their prescriptions at one of over 50 local participating fitness facilities for free access and support.
