When your family physician needs expert advice with regard to your care, you may be referred to a medical specialist, such as a dermatologist, or be referred to one of our PCN programs or clinicians.

Your referral is sent to our team who use a comprehensive system to send, track and complete your referrals while keeping you and your doctor informed during the process. Once we have the date and time of your appointment, we will contact you with the details, or the specialist’s office may contact you directly.

You should be aware that some specialists have long wait times before you can be seen.

If your doctor has started a referral for you, you are welcome to give us a call after a two week period to follow-up on the status of your referral.

Monitoring Your Health

For many of our doctors, our team conducts annual patient health screening to determine the current status of your health, your last check up, and recommends overdue tests based on your age, gender and any existing health conditions you may have. Regular screening is essential to preventing, diagnosing and managing many conditions and may help to identify a problem early on. Early detection can improve treatment outcomes for many patients.

Some screening tests should be done every year while others are needed less often. If your doctor is part of this program, we check your chart every year to see if you are overdue for recommended testing. If you are overdue for an annual physical, lab tests, diagnostic imaging or other appointments, we contact you and can arrange for these appointments if you choose to go.

The following list provides general information about how often and at what age you should be screened.

Your healthcare team may recommend you be screened more frequently or may offer additional tests depending on your health and medical history.

Your family doctor and healthcare team at the Edmonton O-day’min Primary Care Network want to help you prevent illness and achieve your ideal health. We feel routine health screening is one of the best ways to do that.
