PSYCHIATRIST

Edmonton O-day’min Primary Care Network (EOPCN) is seeking Psychiatrists for the provision of Psychiatrist Consultation Services for its specialty linkage program. The EOPCN is centrally located in Edmonton’s Mira Health Centre and supports over 200 family physicians and their patients by providing multi-disciplinary team-based care and medical home supports.

Our mission is to support the health and well-being of our communities through exceptional team-based, person-centered care. Our programs help patients meet their health and wellness goals. We support our primary care physicians by providing referral support to specialists in the community as well as in-house access to specialist care for specialties to support the unique needs of our patient population.

We are looking for psychiatrists to work with our PCN to assist family physicians in assessing, treating, and managing their patients’ mental and/or behavioral health concerns in a consultative model of care.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Use evidence-based practice in the assessment, care planning, interventions and evaluation of patient mental health and wellbeing.
  • Utilize a variety of resources such as patient interviews, support person(s), electronic medical records, and Netcare data, supports to obtain information about medical, social and environmental history affecting mental health and wellbeing.
  • Provide short-term consultation for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, stress and trauma-related disorders, sleep-wake disorders, substance use & concurrent disorders, and personality disorders.
  • Provide regular, timely communication to the patient’s family physician regarding patient status/progress through documentation in the EOPCN EMR and provision of consultation reports including but not limited to relevant clinical information, recommendations, and patient care plans.
  • Develop positive working relationships/partnerships with other EOPCN healthcare team members and clinical support team members, as well as EOPCN community to promote coordinated, quality care and access to appropriate resources for clients.
  • Use of the EOPCN EMR is required as we are committed to program evaluation and continuous quality improvement, and as a valued EOPCN team member, the role may also include occasional participation in EOPCN mental health program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable populations an asset
  • Compassion for clients with challenging socioeconomic and life situations
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage medical IT systems – EMR, Netcare, medical and
  • pharmacological databases
  • Standard First Aid – Level C
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance

Psychiatrists interested in partnering with us will commit to provision of psychiatric consultation appointments within one of the following commitment levels:

  • Full-time services: Monday to Friday between the hours of 8AM to 4:30PM (37.5hr workweek)
  • Part-time services: No less than 4 x 7.5 hr workdays per month (30.0hr per month)
  • Casual services: No less than 1 x 7.5 hr workday per month
