Edmonton O-day’min Primary Care Network (EOPCN) is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Health Informatics Coordinator to join our Data and Evaluation team on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Data and Evaluation Lead, this role is central to enhancing centralized data systems that support both high-quality clinical care and meaningful program evaluation.
Working collaboratively across internal teams, the Health Informatics Coordinator designs, builds, and maintains secure and efficient data solutions, working with the EOPCN central clinic’s electronic medical record (EMR) and organizational databases. This role directly supports EOPCN’s operational and clinical teams by optimizing digital tools, standardizing workflows, and enabling data-informed decision-making.
This is an in-person position, Monday to Friday, based out of the EOPCN central office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Data Infrastructure Design & Maintenance
- Design, develop, and maintain databases and systems to meet clinical and organizational needs.
- Coordinate EMR access and onboarding for centralized staff with appropriate permissions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in collaboration with IT and clinical teams.
- Address barriers to care delivery by supporting data-related tools and workflows.
- Ensure high-quality, consistent data collection methods for effective reporting.
Digital Tools & Integration
- Configure and maintain digital health platforms (e.g., EMR systems, referral tools, patient survey systems).
- Develop and manage forms and workflows used in clinical care, screening, referrals, and evaluations.
- Ensure accurate mapping, validation, and importation of data across systems.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for EMRs and other EOPCN platforms.
- Align digital tools with organizational workflows and strategic goals.
Training & Development
- Develop standardized training materials, process guides, and onboarding content.
- Conduct training sessions to build staff proficiency with data tools and systems.
- Support teams through internal channels like Teams support chat.
- Act as a resource for clinical, administrative, and evaluation teams across data workflows.
Data Management, Evaluation & Reporting
- Collaborate with the evaluation team to meet reporting and data requirements.
- Ensure EMR infrastructure supports outcome-based reporting for programs.
- Standardize data entry and extraction processes from EMRs and databases.
- Create and validate data queries and reports to support organizational decisions.
- Apply quality improvement principles to enhance data accuracy and usefulness.
Compliance & Security
- Ensure all systems comply with data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HIA).
- Update and enforce data security protocols to mitigate risks.
- Support implementation and rollout of new or revised clinical processes from a systems perspective.
Special Projects
- Participate in strategic initiatives such as implementing new digital systems or improving workflows.
- Support evaluation and operational teams in cross-functional data projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Public Health, IT, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
- Certifications or advanced training in EMR systems, data analytics, or quality improvement are assets.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in data management, database development, or a related healthcare field.
- Demonstrated experience with EMR systems (Accuro preferred) and healthcare data platforms.
- Experience configuring templates, data workflows, and supporting clinical documentation.
- Skilled in providing end-user training, onboarding, and technical support.
- Proven ability to create clear training materials and SOPs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365, and Teams.
- Knowledge of data integrity, reporting requirements, and clinical outcome tracking.
- Experience in primary care or working with interdisciplinary healthcare teams is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with EMRs (Accuro is an asset) and clinical data workflows.
- Knowledge of database systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Experience in data management, QA, dashboard/report creation.
- Familiarity with survey tools like OCEAN, including EMR integration.
- Understanding of healthcare regulations, data privacy, and interoperability (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
- Knowledge of data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI; programming in Python or R is an asset).
